Information about Villaverde

History of Villaverde

Villaverde was a rural settlement near Madrid where cereal growing lands were exploited, as well as pastures, gardens and fruit trees. Due to this exploitation, there were a hundred ovens where bread was baked and subsequently sold in Madrid.

Furthermore, due to it being a clayey soil, the tile industry grew becoming the top producer in Madrid, with high quality tiles.

As of 1950, Villaverde stopped being a farming area to become an industrial one.

In 1954 it was annexed to Madrid.
