Information about Simancas

The origins of Simancas

The Simancas quarter belonged to Canillejas municipality, which was annexed to Madrid in 1949. Canillejas quarter took its name from the San Blas quarter until the Municipal Board approved the San Blas - Canillejas name in honour of the former town of Canillejas.

In 1950 the Governance Ministry published the Decree for urgent expropriation of the former Cerro de San Blas, and in 1952 the General Committee of Urban Planning of Madrid and Surrounding Area published a call for bids for this land, ceding the rest to the National Housing Institute in March 1955. The Simancas quarter was built on this area.

Simancas is a quarter belonging to the San Blas - Canillejas district with most business activity.
