The San Blas - Canillejas District covers an area of 2,181.21 hectares and is located at the east of the capital. It includes quarters such as Simancas, Hellín, Amposta, Arcos, Rosas, Canillejas and Salvador.

It borders to the north with the Hortaleza and Barajas districts; to the east with San Fernando de Henares, Coslada and Vicálvaro District; to the south with Vicálvaro, and to the west with Ciudad Lineal.

Information about San Blas - Canillejas

The origins of San Blas - Canillejas

The Town of Canillejas was annexed to Madrid by Decree on 24 June 1949.When the city was administratively divided into districts, Canillejas did not manage to get its name back, contrary to what happened with other districts, so it took its name from the San Blas quarter. This quarter is the sum of fourteen plots for public development, the origin of which is the Madrid Social Emergency Plan of 1957, which included the project to build twenty thousand homes in the southeast of the city.

El Gran San Blas operation was designed in 1958 and it initially included all fourteen plots, with the rest being added later.

In 2012, the District Municipal Board approved the change of name to San Blas - Canillejas District, to render tribute to the former town of Canillejas.
