The AZCA block was designed in the 80's with the idea of creating a financial district for companies to establish in its buildings. With the construction of new buildings, different companies started to set up in the area.
The AZCA Financial Complex (an acronym in Spanish of Block “A” Mixed Compensation Association, commercial zone of Madrid in Av. Generalísimo de Madrid sector) covers an area of around 20 hectares between Paseo de la Castellana, Calle Raimundo Fernández Villaverde, Calle General Perón and Calle Orense. It was completed in the 90's after the development plan was initially approved in 1964 based on a project inspired on the Rockefeller Center in New York, which had been built in 1939.
Owing to its central location and good communications on public transport, the Metro, local railway station and its proximity to the Nuevos Ministerios area, this block is the first choice for major national and international corporations for their headquarters.
A lot of business and commercial activity takes place in this area, since apart from its office building skyscrapers, there are also shopping centres and a wide range of hospitality and leisure services.
Some of Madrid's most emblematic buildings are found in this area: Torre Picasso, Torre Europa, Edificio Castellana 77, Edificio Castellana 79, Edificio Castellana 81, Edificio Cadagua, Edificio Marañón, Edificio Sollube, Edificio Bronce, Edificio Growth, Torre AZCA, Edificio Lima, Torre Negra, Edificio Masters I and Masters II, Torre Alfredo Mahou and Torre Titania, Paseo de la Castellana 55, Paseo de la Castellana 75 B, Paseo de la Castellana 79, Paseo de la Castellana 83-85, Paseo de la Castellana 86, Paseo de la Castellana 87, Paseo de la Castellana 89, Paseo de la Castellana 91, Paseo de la Castellana 92, Paseo de la Castellana 94, Paseo de la Castellana 106, Paseo de la Castellana 108, Paseo de la Castellana 110, Paseo de la Castellana 120, Paseo de la Castellana 130, Plaza Pablo Ruíz Picasso 11, Calle General Perón 36, Avenida General Perón 40 and Plaza Carlos Trías Bertrán 2, just to name some of them. Many of these buildings have offices available for rent.
Renazca, a company set up by the owners of buildings in the AZCA area, including, Merlin Properties, GMP and Alba Patrimonio Inmobiliario, among others, was incorporated to carry out a comprehensive requalification process of the AZCA complex. The project will implement different changes to notably improve the area surrounding the block, joining Nuevos Ministerios with Santiago Bernabéu.
