Information about Tres Cantos

The Origins of Tres Cantos

The Urgent Urbanistic Development Action Plan (ACTUR) for Tres Cantos was passed in 1971 in order to resolve the problem of a growing population and a shortage of housing in Spain from 1960 onwards. Development of the area was planned, and in 1975 the first earthworks began, with arrival of the first inhabitants in 1982.

Tres Cantos was officially founded in 1990 when it separated from neighbouring Colmenar Viejo.

The town has undergone enormous growth in terms of its population, thanks to its good communications with the capital and the peace and quiet of its location.
